Description of Services

SIN 874-1(1) International Development Consulting

CHP prepares Americans to work as international grassroots development consultants in many Central and South American countries and several countries in the Caribbean and in Africa. This preparation consists of intensive language instruction, a core curriculum consisting cultural competency training, area studies, development of the skills needed by effective development workers, and technical training. CHP-trained consultants have worked in many technical sectors, including education; agriculture and environment; municipal development; small and micro-enterprise; urban and rural youth development; gender issues; maternal and child health; HIV/AIDS Education. CHP has been training development consultants for 25 years.

SIN 874-1(2) Program Evaluation

CHP designs and conducts evaluations of innovative education initiatives and of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), including NGO Resource Centers. We employ quantitative techniques as well as qualitative procedures including document reviews, site visits, in-depth interviews, and focus groups.

SIN 874-1(3) Strategic Planning

CHP offers an effective and highly regarded strategic planning workshop. Over the course of three to five days, the participants in the workshop, usually representatives drawn from several levels within the organization, go through a six-step consensus building process that produces a short-term, middle-term, and long-term action plan. The steps are: (1) Progress Review; (2) Operating Vision; (3) Underlying Challenges; (4) Strategic Directions; (5) Critical Milestones; (6) Action Planning.

SIN 874-7(1) Program Integration - Diversity

CHP provides customized diversity training and technical assistance to enhance organizations' ability to create environments of respect and trust among diverse staff, members, and communities. The intent of these services is to increase knowledge and skills that enable diverse teams to get things done. Services include (a) workshops on topics such as supervising diverse teams, building relationships with diverse communities, facilitating and training diversity awareness, and assessing organizations for cultural competency; (b) training of trainers; and (c) on-site as well as distance technical assistance.

SIN 874-7(2) Program Management

CHP provides customized training, on-site and distance technical assistance, and resource materials in organizational development and program management. CHP specializes in management of community-based programs. We provide consultation and training in the following program management areas:

(a) program design, implementation, and management; (b) staff, volunteer, and board development; (c) volunteer recruitment and retention; (d) supervisory skills; (e) risk management; (f) development of networks to strengthen organizations; (g) strategies for dealing with staff turnover; (h) TA consultation/leadership training; (i) servant leadership; (j) motivation; (k) program promotion; (l) building esprit de corps; (m) time management and stress management; (n) building a cohesive team; (o) communication skills; (p) designing training plans
