WHAT DOES CHP PROGRAM MANAGEMENT OFFER?
CHP International, Inc.'s Program Management Training and Technical Assistance Project offers a menu of standardized training topics such as:
member and volunteer recruitment and retention, multi-site management, supervisory skills, teambuilding, developing a year-long training plan, risk management, dealing with difficult people, effective communication,
organizational development, building community and cross-stream collaboration, and conflict management. We also offer customized training.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "CUSTOMIZED TRAINING"?
Customized training is our way of describing training provided to you that is unique to your program's issues and needs. Our staff will assess the
information you provide us and tailor the training to meet your needs, rather than provide you with "off the shelf" training that may or may not hit the mark.
HOW CAN I ACCESS YOUR SERVICES?
A
good place to start would be your state commission, Corporation
for National and Community Service state office or your parent organization.
Your Program Officer at CNCS Headquarters can also be of assistance.
Any of the above may be able to provide the assistance you need
or know of local resources and scheduled CHP events that can help
your program with its needs. But that doesn't preclude you contacting
CHP directly by calling 1-877-959-1967 (toll-free) or by filling
out a Request
for Information form.
You can also e-mail us at prgmgt@chpinternational.com.
WHAT TOPICS DO YOU COVER?
We cover topics that fall in the broad categories of program management, supervision, and organizational development. However, we are able to assist in
any area that will make your program run better or increase the quality of the service you provide. Around the office we say that we are the "kitchen sink"
training and technical assistance provider for the Corporation for National and Community Service. (as in " all that and the kitchen sink!")
WHOM DO YOU TYPICALLY TRAIN?
Our training audience is the staff of national service programs and projects.
We rarely train volunteers, members, or other national service participants. Our primary focus is to train and assist staff whose job it is to run national service programs.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is usually no cost to your program for these services. The Corporation for National and Community Service has arranged for our organization and
others like it to provide assistance to programs such as yours. Occasionally, we will seek cost-sharing for coverage of travel, lodging, meals, or photocopy
expenses for our trainers. But that is not a requirement and it is handled on a case-by-case basis. Otherwise all of the costs are borne by the cooperative agreement between CHP and CNCS.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE?
Technical Assistance, or TA, refers to assistance generally provided to one
program at a time concerning a specific issue. For example, a program may be having trouble complying in an area such as AmeriCorps member files, or
designing a year-long participant training plan. Rather than waiting until the next time that topic is offered at a formal training event, CHP may visit the site
and assist in person. Programs can also receive TA by phone or e-mail.
HOW DOES THE NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL FIT INTO ALL THIS?
The National Crime Prevention Council works with CHP to fulfill the training and
technical assistance requests from the field. NCPC is a valuable resource for the national service community, specifically in supervisory training and public
safety training / technical assistance. NCPC can be accessed through CHP or by contacting them directly.
DOES ANYBODY ELSE DO WHAT YOU DO?
There
are 15 other training and technical assistance providers, all with
specific niches of expertise such as financial management or educational
success. A list
of these providers
is available on this website. Our CHP Project deals with program
management and supervision.
WHO DOES YOUR TRAINING?
Our
staff conducts a significant amount of our training. We also engage
contracted consultants. All our trainers have experience and expertise
in the national service field. Please see the "Staff"
section to get to know us better.
IS A SMALL PROGRAM IN A RURAL AREA ELIGIBLE FOR YOUR SERVICES?
Yes, any program funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service is eligible for these services.
ARE ON-SITE VISITS AND TRAINING ALL YOU DO?
No, CHP provides technical assistance through various technologies, e.g.
telephone, e-mail, conference calls, and other referrals. We also serve various service clusters around the nation and provide support to training events and conferences.
I'VE HEARD OF CHP, WHAT ELSE DO THEY DO?
Please see the "About Us" section of our website for a detailed description of CHP's areas of expertise.
