Through strengthened and expanded private markets, enhanced agricultural development, and expanded access to economic opportunity, people in developing and transitional countries realize significant improvements to their quality of life. Broad-based, sustainable economic growth provides the most opportunities for the greatest numbers of people.

CHP's focus is on building the capacities of people in order to advance their own development efforts. Such strategies may include training in small enterprise development. CHP provides training in developing a business plan, pricing strategy, market analysis, and micro-credit and financial assistance.

CHP's training programs address a host of topics critical to improving agricultural development, the foundation of economies in the least developed countries. We have provided technical training in such areas as farm management, crop improvement and diversification, livestock development, fish farming development, and beekeeping.

The focus of training is on improving agricultural practices in order to expand beyond subsistence farming to producing for other consumers and markets.

We have also worked closely with schools and local non-governmental vocational training organizations, strengthening and enhancing their participation in the community's economic development. Through technical skill building and CHP training workshops for trainers and teachers, these local organizations are provided with the tools and knowledge needed to lead community economic growth.

CHPs creative approach to training in small enterprise development is well exemplified by a training design the company used extensively in Costa Rica. The training design called for the learners to go through all the steps in creating, during the training program, their own small business -- from feasibility study through legal registration, product development, marketing and sales, to troubleshooting and plans for expansion.
