Critical to a country's sustainable development is the health and well-being of its citizens. Disease and poor nutrition prevent people from contributing to their own social and economic progress, as well as fully participating in their community's development. Controlling the spread of infectious diseases, nutrition and health education, improved sanitation practices, and maternal, infant and child health are essential components of a developing country's future prosperity.

CHP training programs for home health care workers, educators and extensionists focus on transferring critical skills necessary to improving the health of citizens in developing and transitional countries. CHP's training techniques for community health workers include non-traditional strategies such as story-telling and puppetry.

CHP has implemented health technical training in Latin America and Africa. We have also developed and conducted U.S.-based programs that train health care workers from developing countries. By networking and collaborating with local health care programs and organizations, CHP provides workers with successful strategies for dealing with such critical health issues as HIV/AIDS care and education.

Drawing on the extensive and multifaceted network of HIV/AIDS organizations in Chicago's Hispanic neighborhoods, CHP has developed a prototype training program for Latin American HIV/AIDS educators and caregivers. The program, staffed entirely with Spanish-speaking trainers and consultants, enables these professionals to draw upon the experience and insight of their North American counterparts in order to improve these services back in their home countries.
